our staff team

Our full-time staff team has grown to 25 people serving in California, Illinois, and beyond. Each staff member is supported financially and lifted up in prayer by a team of believers. Check out our staff and join a team by clicking on any of the names or photos below!

  • Heather Barnes

Heather was the first high schooler in Chicago coached by NSP through our Distance Mentoring program. As she saw God work at Palatine High, she began praying that God would bring NSP to Illinois for the long-term. In faith, she started a new NSP Chapter at Moody Bible Insitute in 2013, then took a year off from college to work full-time in this mission in 2014. Now things have come full circle, and Heather is overseeing the very ministry that she prayed the Lord would bring to Illinois!

  • Kristine Calhan

    Development Event Coordinator

With her teenage/adult children growing and becoming more independent and her oldest leaving for college, this left Kristine entering a new chapter of life.  She started praying for the Lord to open doors and lead her to where she can do meaningful work and use her talents while serving the Lord. The Lord heard her prayers and lead her right to the National School Project.

Kristine and her husband Michael met in college at Southern Illinois University and now live in Crystal Lake Illinois with their three grown teenagers, Hallie, Cameron and Anna. Together as a family they enjoy traveling, an active lifestyle and great food! Outside of the everyday joys of family life and work, Kristine has the honor and blessing of sharing her love of running by guiding visually impaired runners through 5K’s, half and full marathons.

  • ben flemming

Ben has been working with NSP for over thirteen years. Starting with volunteer work as a Campus Mentor  at Sonora High School, Ben soon joined staff and became the Biola Chapter Director in 2008 after graduating with a B.A. in Humanities-Philosophy. Since then he has also served as NSP’s Director of Central Operations, but has definitely found his niche as the Human Resources Director.

Ben and his wife Laura have been married for nine years and are the proud parents of Leah, Samuel, and Davy, their adopted son. They are members at Redeemer Church in La Mirada, where Laura serves on the worship team and Ben serves as the Finance Director. In his work, he constantly recalls 1 Corinthians 15:58, “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always  abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.”

  • Doug Goulding

Doug has spent the past 6 years ministering to youth in various ways. This started when, after sharing his testimony and the gospel at his church’s youth group, he was invited to share at a Jr. High Christian club. This was followed by another Jr. High Christian club, and then a High School club which had over 500 students show up for a lunch time gathering in the gym. While reading Romans 10:9 to the crowd, the realization that he was at a public school sharing the gospel of Christ brought such joy that he couldn’t think of any better way to spend his time. The next few years would be spent speaking, teaching, and rapping at various schools, churches, and outreaches. Being a homeschool family opened up doors to travel and even bring his own children along to help minister at events.

In early 2019 Doug joined NSP to build and lead a team in ministering to schools in the Santa Ana and Tustin area. While serving as the Jr. High Ministry Coordinator for Calvary Chapel Tustin for 3 years, he learned to slow down, plan events thoroughly, and develop long term relationships with students and parents. He feels like God has been using these years to prepare him for his role at NSP and the Meant for More Movement.

Doug lives in Tustin, CA with his lovely wife Perla and their 2 children Ariana and Joseph. Perla serves in their church youth group and both kids lead worship for various ministries as needed.

He is  equipped with a B.A. in Biblical Studies from Biola University and a M.A. in New Testament Language and Literature, and his heart for ministering to public schools is rooted in the words of Romans 1:14, “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?” Kenny regularly leads worship at

Redeemer Church in La Mirada, CA, and lives in Buena Park, CA with his wife Catherine.

  • mark hopson

In 2013, Mark moved his family to Chicago, IL, to start three new ministry chapters at Trinity International  University, Moody Bible Institute, and Wheaton College, effectively launching what would become a brand new ministry hub to service the Midwest. In 2017, Mark became NSP’s second president.

Mark and his wife Shelley both grew up as missionary kids and now have three young children of their own,  Abigail, Anna, and Luke. Together they live in Wheaton, IL, and attend College Church where Mark serves as chairman of the Evangelism Committee.

  • rich hung

Rich received his M.Div. from Talbot School of Theology at Biola University in 2017 and a B.S. in  Business Administration from UC Riverside in 2007. Rich originally approached NSP seeking help mobilizing his church to evangelize to their local high school, but was so impressed with the mission and vision that he soon found himself on staff. After serving as the San Gabriel Valley Chapter Director for three years, he took a leap of faith and accepted the mantle of California State Director in 2016. Rich and his wife Kristen live in Long Beach, CA, and enjoy hiking, exercising and eating healthy.

  • David Kim

    San Gabriel Valley Field Staff

Having been involved with full-time college ministry for 7 years in both California and Georgia, David made the transition to high school ministry and moved to the east coast in 2017. However, after he and his family connected with Warren Willis, David was attracted to the passion and drive he saw within NSP, and felt led to partner with our ministry.  This led to his recent move back to California, where he will serve in our San Gabriel Valley Chapter.

David is excited to be a part of this ministry because it directly shares the love of God through the gospel. He’s eager to help college students see that the mission field is close at hand; it doesn't take an airplane, 3 weeks of their summer, waiting until they graduate, or a career change in order to engage in it. Rather, it is the high school 5 minutes from their dorm or apartment, full of lost students who have never heard the gospel.

In addition to inviting people to view missions as a lifestyle, David’s hobbies include: coffee, archery, ceramics, drumming, table tennis, video games, board games, magic, and reading.

  • Rachel kuehl

Rachel is a 2015 graduate of Wheaton College where she studied English and took advanced classes in filmmaking. Her heart is to see the gospel spread throughout the world, especially in the hearts of young people. She loves to see Christians using their unique gifts "for Christ and his Kingdom." For Rachel, being able to use media to serve God at NSP is a dream job, and a good dream, not the kind where the bookshelf eats your dog.

  • Barnaby Lee

    Bay Area Chapter Director

Barnaby first heard about NSP at a missions conference in 2015, and three years later, God led him to apply for staff. As soon as he finishes raising his ministry support, he will become our first ever San Jose Chapter Director! He’s excited to be a part of this ministry because it challenges youth to be missional, and empowers students with leadership opportunities.

Before coming to NSP, Barnaby worked as a supervisor for information booths at San Francisco Airport, but kept himself busy in ministry roles, serving as an assistant pastor, children's minister, youth ministry director, and director of joint youth ministry network! He continues to serve on the pastoral team at Spring Fountain Church in Burlingame, CA. In his free time, Barnaby loves to play basketball and go fishing. Married to his wife, Christine, since 2017, they enjoy trying new foods and cooking together.

  • matt lohse

    Wheaton chapter field staff

Jesus transformed Matt's life through the influence of a high school christian club, and ever since then, God has challenged him to shine the love and light of Jesus to high school students. Following this call, Matt jumped into the education field after graduating from Wheaton College and has been a public high school science teacher for the last 6 years. During this time, he faithfully served as both the advisor and mentor for the christian club at his school, equipping his club leaders to share the love of Christ. Now, God has called him to take his next "leap of faith" into full time ministry, and Matt's prayer is that the Lord would use this new role to help spread the hope of Jesus to many more schools in the Chicagoland area. Matt will also tell you that, other than his salvation, his wife Nadia is the greatest gift that God has ever given him.

Heavily involved in her high school Christian club, Shannon saw the need in her high school firsthand, but was never fully equipped to go out and share her faith. After graduating with her B.A. in Psychology from Biola, Shannon moved to Southern California to join staff with NSP hoping to see the day where no Christian student graduates high school without being challenged to share the gospel and no non-Christian student graduates without being given the chance to hear it. She loves her church family at Calvary Chapel La Mirada, and is excited to continue investing there as she becomes more rooted in living in California.

  • jonathan mestas

Since then, Kellee has served in multiple capacities in NSP as the first Training Director, the first California  State Director, and the first Development Director. In these roles, Kellee pioneered the creation of NSP’s Outreach Guide, a training resource that has become the foundation of NSP’s leadership development and mentorship model. Kellee also oversaw and developed HomeTown Trips, an initiative that paved the way for rapid ministry expansion and growth in new areas.

  • Leigh Suluvale

    Donor Services Coordinator

Leigh is a midwestern girl, born and raised, but has always had a heart for cultural diversity and unity! Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, she moved to California in 2013 to pursue her graduate degree. At that time, she had been serving in China for two years, teaching and mentoring college students, but sensed the Lord calling her back to America to pursue full-time ministry. Although she felt a stirring to help people grow in their faith and felt passionate about seeing young ones discipled in servant leadership, she wasn’t quite sure what would come of her ministry pursuits.

In 2015, Leigh graduated with a Master of Arts in Leadership Studies from Vanguard University. Still uncertain about what would come next, she continued to walk in faith that the Lord would open the right door for her...and He did! When she heard about NSP in 2017, she deeply resonated with the mission to see young ones empowered in leadership and evangelism and immediately started volunteering! A few months later, Leigh was hired to serve part-time with the NSP Development team and has loved being able to support and serve our team through fundraising and donor services. • warren willis

    CEO & founder

Warren Willis has over 55 years of experience in gospel outreach at home in the United States and abroad.  His ministry journey began in the 60’s at UC Berkeley with Campus Crusade for Christ. At the time, the Berkeley campus was known for being anti-establishment, and Warren witnessed to 199 people before a single person came to faith in Christ. After 39 years, with assignments at Berkeley, Micronesia, Canada, the Philippines, and Mongolia, Warren has helped thousands of people come to Christ.

When Warren returned to the US, he was shocked to see the irreligious state of the public schools. Convicted, he founded the California School Project at Biola University in 2002, with the goal of training college students to mentor Christian students at public high schools in the area to reach their peers with the gospel. The ministry expanded steadily and is now known as National School Project: operating out of  ministry hubs in California and Illinois.

He continues to lead and inspire NSP to reach every public school in America.
