California is the most populous state in the country with 38.8 million people. There are 1,300 high schools in California, with 1,775,000 students attending. While we have a mission to reach every school across the state, the heart of our efforts to reach this enormous mission field is within our ministry chapters at Biola University, in the San Gabriel Valley (SGV), and in Kern County.
From the Biola Chapter, our CSP team is reaching south LA county and north Orange County schools throughout Long Beach, Downey, Whittier, Fullerton, Brea, La Mirada, La Habra, and more.
From the SGV Chapter, our CSP team is reaching schools from Pasadena to Corona, including cities such as Covina, Arcadia, Montclair, and Glendora.
From the Kern County Chapter, our CSP team is reaching schools in and surrounding the city of Bakersfield, spanning from the northernmost city of Delano to the county’s southernmost tip just beyond Lebec at the Grapevine.
Ella from Huntington Middle School in the SGV Chapter describes her experience working with the California School Project: “CSP has not only changed me as a leader, but as a Christian. I was scared of being a Christian and quietly attended [the Jesus for Life (JFL) Christian club]. When CSP mentors came, they taught me to not be afraid, and let me take a leap in my faith and test my courage by going out and witnessing, or sharing the gospel with non-religious students.” She continues, “I proudly wear the title ‘Christian’ with me wherever I go and am not afraid of what people think of me as a Christian. By working with other Christians, I was given the chance to strengthen my faith with them as they strengthened theirs.” For her, CSP was a catalyst that helped her develop the boldness to share Christ with her friends and to encourage other Christians to share their faith as well.
GIVE THE GOSPEL TO ONE OF OUR CA CHAPTERS BY:
To reach the huge mission-field of the most populous state in America, the California School Project team has set out strategically to expand to new cities throughout the state. It is our prayer that in the coming years, these areas of expansion will turn into lasting chapters with lasting ministry in the schools for years to come. The CSP team is currently coaching schools in 3 new areas: San Jose, CA; the Inland Empire in Southern CA; and the South Bay of Los Angeles.
The San Jose area is the third-largest city by population in California, and the tenth-largest city by population in the United States. There are 84 high schools and 60,453 students attending. Currently we are coaching 4 schools in this city!
The Inland Empire area includes cities like Fontana, Rialto, and Riverside, and has an area population approaching 4 million people. Currently we are coaching 10 schools in these cities!
The South Bay of Los Angeles area, with a population of 735,000 people a mission field directly beside our Biola Chapter area. Currently we are coaching 4 schools in this area!
Gray Sutanto speaks to the transformation he saw while participating in expansion work in CA: “Tory was one of these kids [who you could visually see the transformation hearing the Gospel had on him by his face]. His face literally lit up, a frown turned into a joyous smile, his eyes revealed something that was once not there. With great excitement he said to me, ‘I never knew Jesus did that for me. I want that.’ Holding back my tears I prayed for him and I gave him a Bible. This was a sheer manifestation of the grace of God working in a person’s life. It was absolutely wonderful. Responses like these are what I live for: to see God receiving the praise He deserves and man receiving the salvation that he does not deserve.”
